The Role

 
The Assistant Accountant for the Grid and Trading division will play an important role in the growth of the SMS Grid business by performing various tasks that support the major decisions of the business. 
Working alongside the Senior Finance Analyst, the Assistant Accountant will ensure the daily and weekly tasks are processed in a timely manner and provide support to deliver accurate and timely financial information to the key stakeholders to allow them to make informed decisions.

They will take the lead in ledger processes such as purchase order and sales order administration and longer term, 
they will assist in cash forecasting and revenue reconciliations in this area and support any system and process improvements.
As the SMS Grid business grows and more sites are brought on stream, this role will be increasingly important to the success of the business.  


Key Responsibilities

 

•    Sales order creation and customer reconciliations
•    Purchase order processing and management including GRNI
•    Maintenance of Fixed Asset registers 
•    Bank reconciliations for multiple accounts
•    Weekly KPI reports
•    Providing assistance with weekly Cash Flow forecasting
•    Weekly and monthly project timesheet reporting
•    Processing accruals, journals and prepayments 
•    Assist with balance sheet reconciliations
•    Contributing to Inter company reconciliations
•    Assisting in the month end and statutory accounting process 
•    Reporting on spend versus budgets and reviewing variances
•    Recommending ways of cutting costs 
•    Assisting in short and longer-term forecasts 
•    Provide support with audit preparation (internal and external) 
•    VAT reporting to Group
•    Any other duties as requested by Finance Analyst 
•    To comply with all SMS plc Health, Safety and Environmental requirements

 


Educational Qualifications/Memberships

 

•    Relevant Degree or college course 
•    GSCE’s in English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
•    Experience of Dynamics 365 or other ERP system is desirable


Skills and Knowledge

 

•    Part-qualified accountant with good numeracy and analytical skills
•    A self-starter and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
•    Basic understanding of business and accounting 
•    Excellent excel skills
•    Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
