What's the role?

Based within the Commercial function at SMS Energy Services, and reporting to the Commercial Bid Manager, the Bid Manager will be responsible for leading our bid responses and maintaining and enhancing our stock of bid collateral.The Bid Manager will also ensure compliance with bid review protocols to optimise bid-to-win ratios and to ensure that our bid content is market-leading, accurate, and compliant with up-to-date industry standards and regulations. As a central support function, the role will require the Bid Manager to develop relationships and work with all levels of the business and across all departments.

The Bid Manager will produce bid and tender responses relating to SMS Energy Services Limited. Their primary focus is to own the business development lifecycle to win new Energy Management and Carbon Reduction opportunities, ensuring that submissions are completed on time and to the highest standard. This will include delivery and funding opportunities relating to Generation, Storge, Heat, and Electric Vehicle Charging assets. In addition, they will take a lead on the day-to-day monitoring and management of our tender portals to ensure we has visibility of all relevant opportunities and support the administration of our internal CRM which tracks all new sales and existing accounts.

The role has been created to meet our growing requirements and ambitions as we support the UK to achieve its target of Net-Zero Carbon by 2050. Given that this is a fast-growing market, we anticipate significant business growth opportunities in the next 12-24 months and this role will play a crucial role in the delivery of commercial success as we expand our products and propositions into existing and new markets.

This role requires a meticulous attention to detail combined with an ability to work under pressure and to demanding deadlines with a broad understanding of the SMS Energy Services business and our complete service offering.  This includes an ability to spot new opportunities and drive innovation and product development.

Work Schedule - Hybrid working Monday to Friday (2 days per week office working) 37.5 contractual hours per week.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing the design, creation, review, and submission of bid and tender responses in coordination with the wider business.
  • Managing Energy Management and Carbon Reduction related bids for projects and consultancy.
  • Analyse prequalification and tender documents, making recommendations to the Commercial Bid Manager, and to manage the production of tender submissions and reviewing the finished documents.
  • Internal stakeholder engagement and customer liaison throughout the bidding process from project identification through to project closure.
  • Ensure smooth handover of new customer from Commercial team through to internal operational delivery teams as part of BAU.
  • Co-ordinating the creation and document control of template documents to be used by SMS, as required.
  • Support of business development tools, including tender notification subscriptions and alerts, and CRM pipeline tracker.
  • Input into our marketing collateral, and responsibility for updating changes.
  • Engender a culture of ‘Continuous Improvement’ and embrace the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems employed by SMS.
  • Any other duties as required by the Commercial Bid Manager and Head of Commercial.

 

 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

 

  • Relevant Degree (or equivalent) – for example, English, Business, Law, Marketing, Sciences
  • Demonstratable bid and tender management experience. The ideal candidate will have the ability to be develop bid management processes and actively drive successful submission activities.
  • In-depth understanding of the end-to-end tender competition processes including direct award, framework, and DPS procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of procurement practices, standards, and law pertaining to the Public Sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Excellent project management skills demonstrated from experience including business process improvements and governance.
  • The ability to lead lessons learnt sessions post-bid and drive actions to strengthen processes.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, across all departments and levels within the business.
  • Ability to manage both customer and team expectations / requirements.

 

Desirable experience:

  • Working knowledge of the Utilities / Energy Services industry.
  • Experience in developing Energy Services related marketing material.
  • Project Management / Business management qualification
