Job Overview
Joining at an exciting growth phase in SMS, this is an opportunity for professional and skilled EV Electrician for the installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points and possibly in the future PV, Battery, other Carbon Reduction (CaRe) type technologies and as required, to undertake meter installs and other electrical contracting works alongside EV activity.
The role will be field based, visiting customers’ properties, primarily installing Electrical Vehicle charging equipment. You will deliver an exceptional customer experience by ensuring that the work is completed safely and tidily and ensuring that the customer has an excellent understanding of the new EV Charging equipment, including the benefits that it will offer them.
You will be required to keep on top of installation certification (EIC) and compliance with SHEQ.
The role as EV Electrician will report to your EV Electrical Supervisor (EVES) and or EV Project Manager (EVPM).
The EVES will provide support and Identify initiatives for the technical upskilling and will act as the expert for technical contact for Post meter / BS7671 -18th Edition activities providing advice and first line technical support to the EV Electricians.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and testing of the EV equipment
- Conducts oneself and portrays oneself in a professional manner and demonstrates a positive image when representing SMS ES.
- Conduct site specific risk assessment and method statements. (RAMS)
- Complete all installation work to a high quality and standard.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation and certification are complete correctly. (EIC/ EICR)
- Adhere to Construction Design and Management regulations (CDM 2015)
- Ensure Health & Safety regulations are observed throughout.
- Liaise with clients where required to report on progress
- Work with internal SMS departments to ensure the business delivers high quality assets
- Adherence to all relevant SMS processes, policies and procedures
- Data – Entry and maintenance of relevant apps.
- Liaison with Clients / Customers to offer best solutions to site requirements.
- Any other duties as required by the EV Electrical Supervisor (EVES), EV Project Manager (EVPM) or ECM
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Fully accredited electrician
- NVQ Level 3 Design and Verification of Electrical Systems or equivalent
- C&G 2382-18 - BS7671 18th Edition
- C&G 2919 – Electric Vehicle Installations
- C&G 2391 or equivalent (EIC / ECIR)
- Member of Electrical Engineering Professional Body - CSCS JIB / ECS (Gold Card)
- Member or an awarding body such as NAPIT, NICEIC, STROMA, ELECSA (Desirable)
- Health & Safety qualification - Site Safety Training Scheme (SSTS)
- MOCPOA accreditation, if not already qualified, you will be expected to gain MOCOPA and to undertake meter installs and other electrical contracting works alongside EV activity as required
Skills and Knowledge
- Fully accredited EV Electrician with relevant & previous experience within an ideally EV Charging domestic and commercial 3 phase environment.
- Previous experience in an Electrical Contracting / Construction environment.
- Renewable energy installations such as Solar PV, Battery, ASHP.
- Sound H & S knowledge and experience within electrical installation projects (RAMS / SHEQ /CDM).
- Utilities Industry Knowledge - MOCOPA accreditation desirable.
- Able to organize and priorities to meet deadlines.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Full UK driving licence.
