What's the role?

 

As our Graduate Energy Project Manager you will work in SMS’s New Energy Systems (NES) department, supporting the delivery of energy projects, including efficiency improvements and renewable energy generation. You will help to ensure energy projects deliver their intended benefits, including carbon reduction and cost savings, as well as completion on time and within budget.

As Graduate PM tracks project progress, analyses costs, scrutinises deliverables, identifies and responds to risks, and overcomes barriers. The role provides an opportunity to develop core project management skills and experience in core competences, including financial management, business cases, governance, and life cycle planning. 
 

You will work with colleagues in project management, consultancy and energy analysis, as well as contractors and customer stakeholders to coordinate the definition, assessment, planning, implementation and verification of energy projects. The work will be largely office based with some visits to supplier and customer sites within the UK.
 

The Graduate Energy Project Manager role provides an opportunity to gain experience in project management and ensure successful implementation of carbon reduction and energy cost saving projects.
 

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Represent the New Energy Systems department both internally to SMS and externally to customers, suppliers and contractors
  • Develop strong customer relationships across all customer spheres including: End Users, FM, Main Contractors, Consultants and M&E Contractors.
  • Project manage the delivery of key projects to customers whilst maintaining margins and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate installation work with mechanical & electrical sub-contractors as required. 
  • Ensure that technical and commercial specifications are readily available to enable sub-contract orders to be placed.
  • Ensure that material and labour costs are collated and reported on in accordance with company procedure. 
  • Manage variations to contract and cost ‘overspends’ in accordance with company procedure and in collaboration with specialist surveyors. 

 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

 

  • Data analysis skills.
  • Experience of financial calculations.
  • Ability to collate, interpret, quality-check and communicate technical information, including cross-referencing, and the use of rules-of-thumb and benchmarks.
  • Use of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint or equivalent packages.
  • Experience of using Excel (or equivalent) to undertake calculations
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication to ensure technical and non-technical requirements are shared and understood by all relevant stakeholders.
  • Experience of independently managing projects and ensuring work is delivered as expected to a high standard within the allocated timeframe.
