The Role
 
Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Manager and working within a focused team, you will be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring and support of SMS’ IT Infrastructure and facilities, to ensure key business systems are available and performant.
 
Working closely with SMS’ Project Management team, you will facilitate the deployment of new technologies and systems in-line with the technology roadmap, ensuring all necessary guidance and frameworks (e.g ITIL, InfoSec) are adhered to.
 
Acting as an escalation point for BAU support teams, you will provide 3rd / 4th line support for Major Incidents, in addition to the identification of efficiencies and improvements through automation and scripting of environments, processes and systems. You will also own the change management execution for business systems and infrastructure, including the technical impact assessment of proposed changes
 
 
This role can be based from our Cardiff/Glasgow/Doncaster or Bolton office . Working Hours - 37.5 contractual hours per week Monday - Friday.
 
 
Typical Duties
 
  • Availability and Performance Monitoring of SMS’ IT Infrastructure
  • Working with the Project Management team to plan and assess project work adhering to IT Strategy & Roadmap
  • Coordination of infrastructure changes with business stakeholders
  • Analyse and report on operational metrics to understand performance and ensure process improvements
  • Documenting of operational processes for training of support personnel 
  • Automate procedures and processes where possible to increase the efficiency and reliability of activities
 
 
 
Essential Skills :
 
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows Server environments (Windows 2012 +)
  • Scripting and automation experience with PowerShell, with ability to write complex scripts from scratch
  • Proficiency with network hardware and technologies (Cisco, Meraki etc)
  • Experience working within ITIL and Information Security frameworks is essential
  • Experience in administering Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and domain security.
  • Experience of supporting large, 24x7 enterprise-grade infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency with Virtualization technologies (VMWare/Hyper-V) and Hyperconverged Infrastructure (Dell VxRail)
  • Experience with supporting Microsoft cloud Infrastructure. i.e O365, Exchange Online, Sharepoint
  • KPI Reporting and Performance Management is desirable
  • Working knowledge of other cloud-platforms desirable (AWS, Azure, GCP) is desirable
 
 
Education and Professional Qualifications 
 
  • Microsoft MCSA/MCSE certifications or equivalent is essential 
  • VMWare VCTA/VCP certifications or equivalent is essential 
  • ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent
  • Cisco CCENT/CCT/CCNA or equivalent
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or equivalent
 
 
Experience 
 
  • Previous experience of providing 3rd Line technical support for large 24x7 enterprise-grade infrastructure environments
  • Experience of working within an ISO27001 certified technical environment
  • Working within a Project team to plan, assess and implement project work
