What's the role?

SMS Plc provide a completely integrated service from beginning to end, from project managing the installation of the gas and/or electricity supply and connection through to the procurement, installation and management of the meter asset, data collection and on-going energy management solutions. 

As the business continues to expand, we are looking to recruit a field based Regional Technical Manager. Based Nationally working alongside other Regional Technical Managers you will report directly to the Head of Asset, Policy and Training to ensure compliance of engineers to the relevant standards. You will provide technical advice and support to the Head of Asset, Policy and Training and create Technical Bulletins for the engineers. 
You will investigate incidents complete with recommendations and solutions to complex installations. You will be Analytical, safety driven, always looking for improvements.  Innovator and developer of people.  Good communicator.  Able to grasp concepts quickly and introduce changes to the group in a controlled and managed way.  Work well under pressure. Ability to manage ‘worst to best’, motivating staff to achieve outstanding results. 

Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise on gas and electricity Meter Installations, sign off engineers as authorised to work and attend site and correct installations where required
  • Attend industry working groups and bodies
  • Manage MOCOPA and Gas Safe processes and the audit process
  • Identify training needs where required and Safe and Unsafe working practices
  • Coach TSE’s and engineers where required
  • Conduct WIP and Post job audits
  • Incident and Accident investigation and report writing and assessments


To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • CCN1, MET1, EUSR (Power), MOCOPA 3 phase whole current experience
  • Experience in Electricity and/or Gas Meter Installations
  • D32/33 assessing qualifications 
  • Coaching Skills 
  • Audit experience 
  • PC Literate
  • Process Management
  • Sound Technical Understanding
  • Previous Field Management Experience
