The Role
 
As Senior Finance Manager - Energy Asset Management, reporting to the Head of Utilities Bureau, you will be directly responsible for the management and leadership of multiple treasury and finance functions.
 
You will oversee the production of the monthly management accounting and management information, ensuring integrity of the ledgers with the works ranging from:
 
  • Responsible for the day to day oversight of the finance functions
  • Management of multiple teams of office and home-based staff
  • Act as the financial representative to a number of key clients
  • Leading the development and management of CaRe asset financial reporting
  • Ensuring all reporting deadlines are met
  • Presenting financial results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Involved in developing new business opportunities with existing clients 
  • Supporting the teams where required
 
Alongside the management of existing finance teams, the role is also critical in building and delivering a financial reporting function that supports SMS in its aim of delivering CaRe asset projects.
 
Special conditions - Work from Home with visits to Cardiff office as required
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
  • Develop and manage a suitably competent team to support the continued financial reporting on behalf of our existing clients
  • Identify, recruit / onboard the resource as necessary to enable the department to undertake additional management accounting responsibilities for new entities
  • Identify and support initiatives for the technical upskilling of the treasury and finance teams to maximise the effectiveness of our processes whilst ensuring all key controls are adhered to
  • Act as a point of escalation for all members of the teams
  • Provide technical support to the management accountants
  • Monitor the teams’ workloads
  • Implement and improve processes and controls across the existing and new finance functions and ensure that these are regularly monitored and adapted where necessary
  • Assist in the development of new finance functions to report on CaRe asset projects
  • Assessment and reporting against SLAs and KPis
  • Ensure all financial processes are documented and up to date
  • Assist in the month/year end financial processes where required
  • Cash flow management and forecasting
  • Responsible for developing trusting relationships with the customers/investors
  • Attend staff, customer, technical forum meetings where required
  • Adhere to all relevant SMS processes, policies and procedures
  • Providing day-day administration duties in relation to the role
  • Any other duties as required by the Head of Utilities Bureau
 
 
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/MEMBERSHIPS – 
 
  • Essential - Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Essential - GCSE (or equivalent) English / Mathematics at grades C or above
  • Desirable – Degree level education (non-specified) (or equivalent)
 
 
 
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
 
  • Extensive management accounts experience
  • Experience in managing large volumes of data
  • Strong leadership skills with the willingness to be hands-on
  • Must have experience of tight reporting deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Previous experience of implementing an ERP system would be a distinct advantage
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Knowledge of utility industry would be an advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a busy and varied workload
  • Able to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines and manage the expectations of stakeholders
  • Good numerical ability with an attention to detail
