Job Overview 
 
Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain Delivery (HOSCD), The Senior project manager will be instrumental in creating the team and processes that will provide the backbone as we move forward of the delivery of Grid Connected Renewable projects.
 
You and your team will provide project management, SHE, Commercial, engineering and technical support in the delivery of Grid Connected Renewable projects under the banner of the CaRe portfolio with the works ranging from: -
  • Management of a Team of Office and site-based Project Managers
  • Management through Team of the portfolio of Grid Connected Projects at various stages in their
  • delivery
  • Full range of responsibilities of the projects including Financial and SHE
  • Managing Tender Processes up to recommendation of Contract award
  • Management through Team of a number of Contractors delivering Grid Connected Renewable
  • projects
 
The role is critical to the Delivery of SMS Business aims of growing the Grid Renewable Projects for the company and the party will be fundamental to the development and growth of this area
of works.
 
 
 
Special conditions -  Work from Home with visits to Cardiff office .
 
 
 
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
  • Management of a Team of Office and site-based Project Managers
  • Assisting the HOSCD in the recruitment and development of the larger team
  • Manage a portfolio of projects for SMS Energy Services, to ensure that all Program, H&S, Commercial, and Quality elements are met in line with the businesses and project contractual requirements.
  • Assisting in the due diligence investigations into new projects, looking at all areas but specifically Grid connections, Site buildability, Risk analysis and costs
  • Actively manage projects from inception to completion, including program, critical path, deliverables, driving progress against a project plan including the regular reporting to the HOSCD
  • Manage all pre-commencement works required for timely design inputs, including ground investigation, pile tests, resistivity tests, utility surveys, etc.
  • Produce and manage Scope of Works, Risk Register/ RAID Log, H&S/ Quality/ Environmental Management Plan and Cash Flow for each project
  • Working with Head of Supply Chain Delivery to create an approved list of contractors and analyse all proposals/quotations from approved contractors, consultants and suppliers. Including as required the creation and management of Tenders for the delivery of the projects including the Grid Connections, Private Connection works and Balance of Plant activities
  • As directed, lead contractual negotiations with sub-contractors, populate sub-contractor agreements and advise Commercial teams on agreed terms of business
  • Oversee and manage, as needed project procurement and liaise with site management for deliveries of materials, plant and equipment to site
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with internal clients, contractors, suppliers, utility owners, DNO, Project Team, and Senior Management throughout the project preparation and execution, provide regular updates/reports as required.
  • Conduct regular site visits and audits to ensure compliance with H&S, Quality and Environmental plans and other site procedures/ requirements
  • To produce regular individual project and overall department reports for the HOSCD
  • To manage the day to day activities of the greater Renewables Project Team both office and site based
  • Manage project completion and acceptance including tests and commissioning for each work activity, snagging list, work completion tests, PAC and handover to the O&M team
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes including anti-bribery policy and Environmental and Quality Management System and Policy.
  • Attend any required meetings on behalf of SMS ES including DNO, Site provider, Contractor’s, Highways etc.
  • Acknowledges the importance of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality information, ensuring compliance with safe working practices and appropriate use of risk assessments.
  • Maintains good working knowledge of relevant SHEQ Legislation, Technical Standards, Utility Policies and Procedures, Distribution Safety Codes etc.
  • Conducts oneself and portrays oneself in a professional manner and demonstrates a positive image when representing SMS . 
 
 
 
Education and Professional Qualifications
 
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or HNC
  • Project Management qualifications
  • Degree in a related Managerial discipline
  • Member of Electrical Engineering Professional Body
  • Health & Safety Qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH)
  • SMSTS
  • Incorporated/Chartered Engineer Status

  • Previous experience in Electrical Connections Construction environment
  • Previous experience within a Grid Connected Renewables environment
  • Sound H & S knowledge and experience within large electrical connections / Renewable construction
