What's the role?

SMS plc is at the initial stages of building a funded CPO network of Rapid and Ultra Rapid EV Charging infrastructure. The project team is looking for an experienced Architectural Technologist to join the team to lead the design of our EV Charging sites.

The Architectural Technologist will be a dedicated resource within the EV Charging team to manage all aspects of architectural design for our EV Charging sites.

Working alongside a team of project engineers and project managers, they will be responsible for preparing initial design proposals (both 2D and 3D), lead the detailed design process including management and coordination of third party designers, manage changes during the construction phase and ensure all as-built drawings are accurate as part of the completion and handover to operations.

This role is based in our Cardiff office for 2 days as part of our hybrid working policy, with the remaining 3 days at home. The contracted hours for this position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and/or coordinate the production of a range of 2D drawings from initial feasibility all the way through detailed design and construction to final as-built drawings.
  • Produce 3D renders of EV Charging sites.
  • Produce and revise as required a set of standard drawings for all layouts and equipment.
  • Set up and maintain drawing issue register.
  • Ensure accurate control is maintained over record keeping and archiving of all design work.
  • Review drawings, plans, specifications and other landowner documentation as required and advise the project team of any potential engineering difficulties or opportunities for alternative solutions.
  • Serve as an information source for changes in working methods, technologies and applications to ensure we are always informed of improvements in CAD.
  • Attend design progress meetings with project team and external stakeholders.
  • Understand the importance of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality information, ensuring compliance with safe working practices and appropriate use of risk assessments. 
  • Maintain good working knowledge of relevant SHEQ Legislation, PAS 1899:2022, Parking Design Standards, Technical Standards, IET Regulations (BS7671), Utility Policies and Procedures, Distribution Safety Codes etc. 
  • Embrace a culture of ‘Continuous Improvement’, together with the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems employed by SMS.
  • Any other duties as required.

 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A BTEC Higher or Degree in a related discipline such as Architectural Technology, or relevant experience.
  • A CIAT Membership is desirable but not essential.
  • Extensive experience in the use of 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Coordination and management of the design process including effective utilisation of third parties.
  • Experience managing large numbers of projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
