Job Overview 
 
Working closely with the Finance team and Management team within the Data Services department, the Contracts Officer will be responsible for ensuring data services activities are billed correctly and in accordance to the contractual terms. Management of accruals, deferrals and debt will form part of this role with specific targets to be met.
 
The Contracts Officer will ensure the exceptions or queries raised against disputed invoices are dealt with responsibly and in accordance with contractual terms.
 
Working with third party companies and other SMS departments, costs relating to Data Services will be validated and queries managed.
 
Reporting will be produced to the relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
 
 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all contractual fees are applied to Data Services activities, including ad hoc charges such as site visits and PSTN lines
  • In conjunction with the commercial team, set up and manage individual contracts where required
  • Raising of invoice schedules to the Finance team for processing
  • Identification of cost reduction opportunities
  • Management of accruals and deferrals relating to Data Services at month end
  • Resolution of disputes raised on debt relating to queries on Data Services
  • Working with Customers / SMS Account Managers to ensure timely receipt of purchase orders
  • Delivery of regular management reporting to the Management team
  • Any other duties required by the Data Services Management Team
 
 
Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Educated to A-level standard or Degree (or equivalent) – desirable.
  • Accounting / Finance qualifications – desirable.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Math and English – essential. 
 
 
 
Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Packages (especially Excel)
  • Excellent numerical reasoning and problem solving
  • Able to organise and prioritise workload
  • Understanding of Accountancy principles
  • Working with large volumes of data
  • Reporting to Managers on financial position
  • Working to given deadlines
  • Desirable;
  • Electricity Metering Industry and/or Data Industry Knowledge
