What's the role?
SMS provide a completely integrated service from beginning to end, from project managing the installation of the gas and/or electricity supply and connection through to the procurement, installation and management of the meter asset, data collection and on-going energy management solutions.
This role is focused on delivering accurate, timely, and insightful data analysis to support key business decisions across the organization. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a range of recurring and ad hoc reports that provide management with a clear view of performance, trends, and opportunities. You’ll work closely with various departments to understand their reporting needs, provide meaningful analysis, and help identify areas for process improvement, automation, and smarter ways of working.
This role is offered on a hybrid working basis and the contractual hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a mix of BAU reporting, project-based analysis, and one-off data requests with a high level of accuracy and reliability.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI to support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
- Working with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and develop reporting.
- Take ownership of recurring reporting processes, ensuring timely distribution and continuous improvement of reporting workflows.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate data processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Maintain clear documentation of reporting logic, data sources, and processes to ensure transparency and continuity.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent use of data and reporting standards.
- Support the development of colleagues and promoting best practices.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have/be:
- Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL preferred).
- Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, and macros.
- Experience with Power BI / Fabric.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and a methodical, logical approach to work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Python for data analysis (e.g., pandas, NumPy, matplotlib).
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and data governance.
- Knowledge of ETL processes and tools.
