Job Overview
 
Joining at an exciting growth phase in SMS, the aim of the role is to assist the Electrical Contracts Manager (ECM) in the development and supervision of a suitably competent / accredited internal and external supply chain for the installation of EV and possibly in the future other renewables such as Battery, PV and other Carbon Reduction (CaRe) type technologies, in addition to the existing  Post Meter Electrical works, Meter installs and other electrical contracting works alongside EV activity as required for SMS ES.   
 
The Role is to act as an Electrical Supervisor, assisting in creating and maintaining a team of suitably competent resources to enable SMS ES to meet their required levels of installations. They will act as the expert for technical contact for Post meter / BS7671 -18th Edition activities providing advice and support to the ECM and first line technical support to the Field Services Team. 
 
The role has specific responsibilities with regard to the provision of Electrical Post meter (BS7671, EV, MCS) works either directly or via approved subcontracted partners and as such the role also has responsibility to assist in the Identification of Suitable Direct Employee’s, and in the management, monitoring and reporting of Internal and external Resources. The person will act as an Electrical Supervisor as required for Electrical works under the NICEIC accreditation. 
 
Providing support, training, and mentoring as required to develop the Team. 
 
The person would be expected to act as a Qualified Supervisor for works under SMS’s NICEIC, MCS & OLEV accreditations.
 
Special Conditions : This post will be field based, however travel to the Cardiff office will be expected from time to time.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Acting as NICEIC Qualified Supervisor and appointed Technical person assisting the ECM in the maintenance of associated accreditations for SMS moving forward
  • To develop and supervise a suitably competent team to support and sustain the growth of SMS capability within the Electrical Contracting field of work across multiple sectors and asset classes
  • Assist the ECM in Identifying, recruiting / onboarding the resources necessary to enable the department to meet the delivery demand requirements of the business
  • To carry out as required the implementation of competency-based assessments and authorisations
  • Directly manage / supervise the externally contracted and directly employed resources
  • Take a supporting role in SMS ES achieving NICEIC fully Approved Contractor accreditation
  • Ensure that the results of inspection and testing are recorded correctly on the appropriate certificates or reports.
  • Ensure that the business’ premises, equipment, documentation and records are available for inspection when required by NICEIC, MCS
  • Support the design team in the development of specific designs for PV, Battery Storage, EV and other CaRe products as required.
  • Ensure Health & safety compliance and support of CaRe & Infrastructure delivery works
  • Assist in the creation and upkeep of the required library of Industry documentation for NICEIC, MCS, OZEV Etc. Including appropriate support in the production and delivery checklists, risk assessment and methods statements (RAMS), EIC / EICR and SHEQ, CDM requirements and SMS Field Manual(s)
  • Provide typical line management HR support for directly employed workforce
  • Any other duties as required by the ECM or HOSCD
 
 
 
Education and Professional Qualifications
 
  • NVQ Level 3 Design and Verification of Electrical Systems
  • Project Management qualifications
  • C&G 2382-18 - BS7671 18th Edition 
  • C&G 2919 – Electric Vehicle Installations
  • C&G 2399 – PV installations (desirable)
  • C&G 2391 or equivalent (EIC / ECIR)
  • Member of Electrical Engineering Professional Body - CSCS JIB / ECS (Gold Card) /IET 
  • Health & Safety qualification - Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
  • MOCOPA accreditation,  if not you will be expected to gain MOCOPA and to undertake meter installs and other electrical contracting works alongside EV activity as required
 
 
 
 
Skills and Knowledge
 
  • Electrical Contracting industry Supervisory experience
  • Previous experience in an Electrical Contracting / Construction environment
  • Previous experience within an EV Charging environment / Renewables , PV, Battery, ASHP. 
  • Sound H & S knowledge and experience within electrical installation projects (RAMS / SHEQ /CDM)
  • Utilities Industry Knowledge - desirable
  • Previous experience of Project Management and Supervisory activities
  • Strong and effective people management skills (i.e., Empowering employees, Active listening, Conflict resolution, Flexibility, Patience, Clear communication, Trust, Organisation)
  • Previous experience of line management
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Packages
  • Able to organize and priorities to meet deadlines 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication 
  • Excellent problem solving
