The Role
Working within our IT Programme Team from either Cambridge , Glasgow or Cardiff office and reporting to Head of IT Programme Delivery , the Junior Project Manager will take responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of software development projects (typically with direct business impact and firm deadlines).
They will identify, assess and manage risks to the success of the project. They will ensure that realistic project plans are maintained and ensure regular and accurate communication to stakeholders (internal & external as appropriate), consistent with the methods in use (agile, waterfall, etc. as appropriate to the project).
The Junior Project Manager will assist in the project governance process, change control procedure and ensure that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off. They will provide effective leadership to the project team and take appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
Special conditions : Some UK travel required.
Typical Duties
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop project plans to ensure delivery of the project goal through the full project lifecycle
- Set and manage stakeholder expectations on project delivery
- Produce project plans for internal and external consumption and report on progress against the plan
- Manage the project governance process
- Manage & mitigate project risks and issues
- Manage the project change control process
- Create & maintain project documentation e.g. Project Terms of Reference
- Manage inter- and intra-project dependencies
- Manage multiple concurrent projects
- Meeting and discussing project requirements with customers, business users and project team members
- Run project kick-off meetings
- Run regular project review meetings
- Attend & contribute to external project review meetings
- Attend & contribute to internal Programme review meetings
- Share and discuss project delivery problems and processes with fellow team members
- Share and discuss technical solutions with fellow team members

Education and Professional Qualifications
- A level (or equivalent) qualification
- Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline would be desirable
Experience
- Previous experience in delivery of software development projects is essential
- Relevant experience in managing projects is desirable
