What's the role?

As the MI and Reporting Analyst you will play a crucial role in supporting SMS’ established Energy and Asset Management departments, with responsibilities covering internal and client reporting, BI development, systems and departmental processes.


The Energy Bureau and Asset Management departments are comprised of several specialist teams with a focus on utility data, finance and exciting new sustainable technologies.
Reporting to the Business Intelligence Manager, this role in a growing and supportive team will be to conduct modelling and interpretation of company operational data, produce, maintain and develop highly visual reports, ensure all data requests are serviced, work with each of the teams to understand and aid with system and process improvements.


You will have an important role within SMS that ensures maintained control environments, data integrity and timeliness of reporting outputs. It is therefore critical that you have strong organisational skills and a high attention to detail. 
In addition to working alongside your peers, you will also be working directly with a number of high-profile commercial clients.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Interpreting and transforming data to produce compelling MI, capable of visually directing the user towards key trends
  • Adding value through powerful commentary and insight, ensuring all MI produced tells a story and is easy for users to digest and access 
  • Service and maintain excel based reports and dashboards for internal and client use
  • Innovating and refining processes, constantly looking to reduce manual effort through automation and best practise
  • Work with the relevant teams to develop and improve current processes, highlighting process gaps & instances where process is not being followed
  • Interpreting any anomalies in data from accuracy checks and take appropriate action to prevent issues from occurring in the future
  • Maintain the departmental software to ensure that operational needs are met. This can include, but is not limited to: 

-Setting user access permissions 

-Testing & applying software updates 

-Resolving user queries 

-Conduct relevant staff training when required 

 

 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Solid Power BI & DAX experience
  • Strong Excel skills (power query, advanced formulae, pivot tables)
  • The ability to interrogate large amounts of data and bring it to life
  • Knowledge of report creation 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of numeracy
  • Database structure and relationship knowledge
  • Experience in working across departments, drawing on knowledge and experience from around the business to deliver an objective
  • Ability to learn new skills and an appetite to develop
  • Previous experience in utilities industry would be an advantage
  • SQL and VBA knowledge would be an advantage
