What's the role?


As a Network Engineer you will be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring and support of SMS’ internal and external networks, to ensure key business systems, sites, and user-access routes are available and performant. 

You will be working closely with SMS’ Project Management and Information Security team, you will facilitate the deployment of new technologies, networks and systems in-line with the technology roadmap, ensuring all necessary guidance and frameworks (e.g ITIL, InfoSec) are adhered to. 

Acting as an escalation point for BAU support teams and other Infrastructure Engineers, you will provide 3rd / 4th line support for Major Incidents, in addition to the identification of efficiencies and improvements through automation and scripting of environments, processes and systems. 
You will also own the change management execution for the network infrastructure, including the technical impact assessment of proposed changes and documentation thereof.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

 

Choosing to This is a SFIA 5 role, the skills and knowledge required for the role are as follows: 

  • Experience in IT and business/industry work experience
  • Broad range of exposure to various technical environments and business segments
  • Experience in working with a broad range of diverse and complicated business units 
  • Excellent knowledge of Cisco hardware including Firewalls, Switches and Routers to include Firepower and Meraki solutions
  • Highly experienced working with Cisco IOS, VLANS, routing protocols and HA architecture
  • Experience working within ITIL and Information Security frameworks is essential
  • Good understanding of VPN technology and processes including SSL and IPSEC
  • Experience of supporting large, 24x7 enterprise-grade infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with WAN technologies, including point to point link, and MPLS
  • Working knowledge of cloud-platforms network architecture ¬¬(AWS desirable)
  • Knowledge of multi-site connectivity and remote working practices advantageous
