What's the role?

This role is key to supporting SMS’s growth in metering services. As an Operations Support Assistant, you’ll manage inbound and outbound customer appointment calls to ensure successful meter bookings. Working closely with SMS field engineers, you’ll help coordinate daily schedules to ensure efficient and organised service delivery. 

You’ll be based in our Bolton office, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

As an Operations Support Assistant you will be working with:
o    End consumers
o    Gas suppliers
o    Engineering field force
o    SMS Industrial and Commercial Customer Service Team
o    SMS field operations management team
o    SMS Capacity planners

Key responsibilities:

  • Handle inbound and outbound customer appointment calls, booking meter exchanges in line with supplier guidelines.
  • Plan and schedule work for SMS field engineers, grouping jobs efficiently and arranging access ahead of visits.
  • Provide ongoing support to engineers and subcontractors, including directions and schedule adjustments to maximise installs and minimise cancellations.
  • Maintain accurate records across work management systems and ensure all completed jobs are claimed promptly.
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to resolve queries and ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Manage ad-hoc tasks including emergency bookings, warrant projects, and escalations to the Metering Delivery Manager.
  • Support business growth by helping increase SMS’s market share of I&C Gas assets and delivering on operational targets.
