What's the role?

SMS plc is at the initial stages of building a funded CPO network of Rapid and Ultra Rapid EV Charging infrastructure. The projects team is looking for a Pre-Construction Manager to take our EV Charging sites from initial feasibility through to being ready-to-build.

The Pre-Construction Manager role is critical to the success of the role out of our new network as this is where our due diligence takes place to ensure the project is de-risked as far as possible and ready to be handed to the Construction Project Manager.

Working under the Head of Projects, the Pre-Construction Manager will work alongside our Project Managers whilst also being the point of contact for the landowner as the development works progress to towards construction. The role is home based but will require travel for site surveys as well as both internal and external meetings.

Please note that this role will be based from our Glasgow Head Office for 2 days as part of our hybrid working policy, with elements of home working and site visits as well. 

The contracted hours for this position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate technical site surveys.
  • Coordinate the contractor estimating and design process.
  • Ensure legal searches and lease negotiations are progressing in a timely manner.
  • Manage the planning process.
  • Forecast equipment requirements accurately.
  • Update and maintain projects tracker on a daily basis.
  • Report project progress to Head of Projects and inform of any unexpected delays promptly.
  • Embrace a culture of ‘Continuous Improvement’, together with the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems employed by SMS.
  • Any other duties as required.

 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management qualification, or relevant experience.
  • A PRINCE2 or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced projects environment with multiple projects running concurrently.
  • Experience or good understanding of civil/electrical engineering and utilities.
  • Experience managing contractors in an effective manner.
  • Experience or good working knowledge of new grid connections and Distribution Network Operators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills.
