What's the role?

Joining at an exciting growth phase in SMS, the aim of the role is to assist in the development and supervision of suitably competent / accredited internal and external resources to undertake various electrical installation works across a range of customer segments and technology types including but not limited to the telecommunications industry, EV, Battery, PV and other Carbon Reduction (CaRe) type technologies.
 

The role is to act as a Qualified Supervisor, assisting in creating and maintaining a team (internal and external) of suitably competent resources to enable SMS ES to meet their required levels of installations. You will act as the expert for technical contact providing advice and support to the Utility Services department and first line technical support to the internal/external Engineers.  You will be required to complete site survey’s, produce conceptual designs and provide internal and external stakeholders with quotations to complete various types of electrical installations including power connections. You will be expected to maintain a good understanding of existing and emerging product technologies to support the design, costing and installation of electrical installations. You will also provide support, training, and mentoring as required to develop the Utility Services department. 

 

Working Conditions -  You will be on a 40 hour per week contract, working Monday to Friday.Based at Home with Office & Site Visits, as required .  Large amounts of travelling throughout the UK, with overnight stays as required, vehicle will be supplied.

 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying, recruiting / onboarding the resources necessary to enable the department to meet the delivery demand requirements of the business and to develop and supervise a suitably competent team to support and sustain the growth of SMS and carry out as required the implementation of competency-based assessments and authorisations.
  • Acting as NICEIC Qualified Supervisor and appointed technical person assisting in the maintenance of associated accreditations for SMS moving forward.
  • Ensure that the results of inspection and testing are recorded correctly on the appropriate certificates or reports and that business’ premises, equipment, documentation, and records are available for inspection when required.
  • Support the design team in the development of specific designs and provide technical support to the Utility Services department.
  • Engage with external resource to acquire and validate quotations for planned and specialised site works and identify and support initiatives for the technical upskilling to maximise the effectiveness of our processes whilst ensuring appropriate quality, health and safety measures and checks are in place.
  • Survey, design, quote and undertake electrical installation works and Carry out an auditing regime of internal & external staff, onsite and desktop.
  • Including appropriate support in the production and delivery checklists, risk assessment and methods statements (RAMS), EIC / EICR and SHEQ, CDM requirements and SMS Field Manual(s)
  • Attend staff, customer, Regulatory Body, Manufacturer and DNO meetings, where required

  • Level 3 Award in Design and Initial Verification of Electrical Systems (Essential)
  • C&G 2382-18 - BS7671 18th Edition amendment 2 (Essential)
  • C&G 2391 – Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations. (Essential)
  • Member of Electrical Engineering Professional Body - CSCS JIB / ECS (Gold Card)  (Essential)
  • Level 3 Award in Installing, Testing, and ensuring compliance of electrical installations (Essential)
  • Project Management qualifications (Desirable)
  • Basic CAD design skills (Desirable)
  • C&G 2919 – Electric Vehicle Installations (Desirable)
  • C&G 2399 – PV installations (Desirable)
  • Health & Safety qualification - Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or SMSTS (Desirable)
  • MOCOPA Accreditation (Desirable)
